The 3M 7000124214 is a high-temperature paint masking film designed for gross masking in OEM and repair paint applications. The film is 24 inches wide by 1500 feet long and 3.4 mil thick, with a reported physical thickness of 2.9 mils. Its soft, flexible construction provides good drape and conformability over curved and irregular surfaces, including body panels, fascia, and framing. Automotive painters, fleet shop technicians, and body shop professionals use this film to protect adjacent surfaces during two-tone paint, blackout, and refinishing operations. It is rated for continuous use up to 310 degrees F, making it suitable for bake-oven environments.
This masking film is used in automotive, bus, and truck OEM paint lines as well as body shop repair settings. It is compatible with standard apron tapers, allowing the film and masking tape to be dispensed simultaneously. The translucent construction lets technicians see through the mask to verify coverage and alignment. It is well suited for applications where masking paper is insufficient due to solvent bleed-through risk or fiber contamination concerns.
Designed for OEM two-tone paint, blackout, and repair painting of autos, buses, trucks, and fascia. Compatible with standard apron taper dispensing systems. Most paints and masking tapes have excellent adhesion to the 7300 film surface.
This product is applied by automotive painters and body shop technicians as part of a standard masking workflow. Power down any spray equipment and ensure adequate ventilation before beginning masking and paint operations. The film should be applied with compatible masking tape along all edges to maintain a clean paint line and prevent lifting during the bake cycle. Remove the film promptly after the finish cools to avoid adhesion issues with the surrounding surface.
