The 3M 7000124199 is a dead soft aluminum foil tape engineered to absorb and dissipate mechanical vibration while reducing structure-borne noise. The foil constraining layer is coated with a viscoelastic acrylic polymer adhesive that converts vibrational energy into low-level heat, attenuating resonance across a wide frequency range. At 7 inches wide and 36 yards long per roll, this tape covers large panel surfaces efficiently. The silver finish and linered construction support die-cutting for precision fabrication work. It is installed by HVAC technicians, fabricators, and MRO maintenance professionals across industrial and commercial settings.
This tape is suited for applications in aerospace, automotive, construction, appliance manufacturing, and general industrial maintenance. Typical uses include damping sheet metal panels, ductwork, compressor housings, appliance cabinets, and structural surfaces that transmit vibration or generate noise. Cold temperature resistance allows the tape to perform down to -76 degrees F, making it viable in refrigeration, outdoor mechanical enclosures, and other low-temperature environments. UV and weather resistance extend service life in exposed or semi-exposed installations.
Designed for vibration damping and noise reduction on sheet metal panels, ductwork, appliance housings, and similar surfaces across aerospace, automotive, construction, appliance, and MRO applications.
This tape is applied by fabricators, HVAC technicians, and maintenance professionals using standard surface preparation and hand pressure or a roller tool for full adhesive contact. Surfaces should be clean, dry, and free of oils or loose material before application. For die-cut shapes, work with the blue polyethylene liner in place and remove it immediately before bonding. Avoid stretching the foil during application to maintain constraining-layer integrity.
