The 3M 7000122071 is a non-woven, hook-and-loop abrasive disc designed for light-duty blending, cleaning, deburring, and finishing on a variety of metals. At 5 inches in diameter, this disc mounts to a compatible hook-and-loop holder pad on a random orbital sander. The aluminum oxide mineral construction sits in a tough, pliable nylon web that resists loading, helping maintain cut consistency across a work session. Vacuum-compatible dust holes keep the workpiece and work area cleaner during operation. This disc is classified as a general-purpose (GP) grade, positioned for moderately aggressive use without the higher aggression of HP-grade material.
This disc is suited for industrial and professional metal finishing environments where a controlled, lighter cut is required. Typical applications include cleaning mill scale, deburring machined edges, and blending weld seams on steel, aluminum, and other common metals. The open nylon web construction handles irregular surface contours better than rigid abrasive media, making it a practical choice for finishing work that demands a consistent, professional surface appearance. It is used by metal fabricators, maintenance technicians, and other trade professionals working with random orbital sanding equipment.
Designed for use with hook-and-loop holder pads on random orbital sanders; the holder pad is sold separately. Compatible with vacuum sanding systems that accept 5-inch hook-and-loop discs.
Installation and disc changes should be performed with the sander powered off and disconnected from its power source. Align dust holes with the corresponding ports on the backing pad to maintain vacuum extraction performance. Inspect the hook-and-loop backing pad for wear before attaching the disc, as a degraded pad can cause disc detachment during operation. Use appropriate respiratory and eye protection in accordance with applicable workplace safety standards when operating abrasive equipment.
