The 3M 7000121147 is a Scotch-Brite Cross Buff designed for cleaning and polishing inside diameters in demanding production environments. This abrasive buff measures 1.5 inches in diameter by 0.375 inches wide, features a 2-ply staggered web construction, and is threaded for an 8-32 mandrel mount. The High Strength Very Fine (VFN) abrasive grade delivers consistent material removal for deburring, satin finishing, denibbing, defuzzing, and surface preparation. The durable nonwoven web resists loading and maintains conformability across irregular bore surfaces. HVAC, automotive, and aerospace production technicians reach for this buff when surface finish consistency inside bores and small-diameter passages is critical.
This Cross Buff is well suited for cleaning and polishing inside diameters on lifter bores, valve bodies, valve spools, and tubing. Typical applications include removing surface oxidation, removing rust and corrosion, preparing surfaces prior to coating, and polishing dies, molds, and inside-diameter features. It performs in aerospace and automotive production lines where repeatable finish quality inside small-diameter features is required. The 2-ply staggered design provides more consistent contact and extended buff life compared to single-ply alternatives, making it practical for high-volume production work.
Designed for use with 8-32 threaded mandrels. Suitable for cleaning and polishing inside diameters in aerospace and automotive production applications including lifter bores, valve bodies, valve spools, and tubing.
Thread the buff securely onto a compatible 8-32 mandrel before mounting in a rotary tool or drill press. Ensure the tool is powered off and the workpiece is secured before attaching or removing the buff. Follow applicable shop safety protocols including eye protection and appropriate RPM limits for the buff size. Do not exceed the mandrel or tool manufacturer's recommended operating speed.
