The 3M 7000120769 Scotch-Brite Surface Conditioning Film Backed Belt is a non-woven abrasive belt designed for cleaning, finishing, blending, and deburring on a wide range of surfaces. The belt uses an aluminum oxide mineral bonded with resin onto a smooth, stretch-resistant nylon film backing. This construction keeps the belt dimensionally stable under tension, making it well suited for stroke sanders and platen work where reduced back-of-belt friction is critical. HVAC fabricators, sheet metal workers, and maintenance technicians working with ductwork, fittings, or mechanical components are typical users. The belt measures 132 inches in length and 4 inches in width and ships in a minimum quantity of five units per order.
This belt fits into workflows that require consistent surface conditioning without aggressive stock removal. The nylon film backing performs well on stroke sanders because it generates less friction against the platen than a cloth-backed belt. Open gaps between the nylon fibers allow swarf and debris to escape, reducing loading and extending usable belt life. As the surface fibers wear, fresh mineral is exposed gradually, which sustains a consistent cut rate across the life of the belt. This makes it practical for production finishing on metal, painted surfaces, composites, and similar materials where a repeatable finish is required.
Designed for use on stroke sanders and similar belt finishing equipment that accepts a 132-inch by 4-inch non-woven abrasive belt with a film backing.
Installation of abrasive belts should be performed with the machine powered off and the drive disconnected. Confirm belt tracking direction before energizing the machine, as most non-woven belts are non-directional but the equipment manufacturer's guidance takes precedence. Inspect the platen and contact wheel for wear before mounting a new belt to avoid uneven loading. Use appropriate hand and eye protection during belt changes and operation.
