The 3M 7000120727 Scotch-Brite Surface Conditioning Belt is a nonwoven abrasive belt designed for detail finishing, blending, deburring, and surface preparation on metal workpieces. Built on a reinforced scrim backing with an open nonwoven web construction and aluminum oxide (AO) abrasive grain bonded with resin, this belt delivers consistent stock removal and surface conditioning without excessive heat build-up or loading. It measures 48 inches in length and 6 inches in width and weighs approximately 1.15 pounds per unit. Metalworking shops, fabrication facilities, and finishing technicians are the primary users of this belt in both manual and automated machine applications.
This belt is suited for use on stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and other metals where controlled surface conditioning is required. Typical applications include blending weld seams, cleaning mill scale, deburring cut or stamped edges, setting a consistent grain, and achieving straight-line brushed or fine-finished surfaces on flat and contoured parts. The belt's conformability makes it well-suited for robotic and automated finishing systems where consistent contact with irregular or complex-shaped geometry is critical.
Designed for use on belt grinders and automated surface finishing equipment that accept 48-inch by 6-inch abrasive belts. Compatible with a range of metals including stainless steel, carbon steel, and aluminum in fabrication and finishing applications.
Installation should be performed by trained metalworking or maintenance technicians. Power down and fully de-energize the belt grinder or finishing machine before mounting or removing belts. Verify belt tracking and tension per the machine manufacturer's guidelines before operating. Eye protection, hearing protection, and appropriate respiratory PPE should be worn during use, particularly when finishing stainless steel or other alloys.
