The 3M 7000120598 is a nonwoven surface conditioning belt designed for detail finishing work on metal surfaces. Built with an aluminum oxide abrasive bonded to a reinforced nonwoven open web backing, this belt handles blending, deburring, contour finishing, flat finishing, and stainless steel finishing in a single platform. The open web construction reduces loading and heat buildup, allowing extended run time and consistent surface results. At 0.3 pounds, the belt is suited for both handheld and automated machine applications where conformability to complex part geometry is required.
This belt is used in metalworking environments where surface quality matters: fabrication shops, maintenance facilities, and robotic finishing cells. Typical applications include removing grind lines and mill marks, setting a brushed grain on stainless steel, deburring edges, and blending weld areas. The scrim-reinforced backing provides flexibility needed for curved surfaces, inside corners, and contoured workpieces across a range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
Designed as a standard-size replacement or direct-use belt for belt sanders and finishing machines that accept 3 inch by 24 inch abrasive belts in metalworking and surface conditioning applications.
Installation is performed by metalworking technicians or maintenance personnel familiar with abrasive belt equipment. Before mounting the belt, power down and lock out the sander or finishing machine per OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Confirm belt tracking and tension per the equipment manufacturer's guidelines before resuming operation. Inspect the belt for tears or delamination before each use and replace immediately if damage is found.
