The 3M 7000120429 is a Quick-Change Type R disc backing pad designed for use with Roloc TR abrasive discs. It supports a maximum spindle speed of 8,000 RPM and features a soft density construction that allows the disc to conform to contoured or irregular work surfaces. Licensed tradespeople and skilled technicians use this backing pad with angle grinders and die grinders to back surface conditioning, blending, and finishing discs during metal fabrication, weld prep, and surface treatment operations. The quick-change attachment system allows for fast disc swaps without additional tooling.
This backing pad is suited for light fabrication shops, maintenance and repair environments, and production grinding applications where quick disc changes improve workflow efficiency. It pairs with Roloc TR quick-change discs for tasks such as deburring, blending welds, removing surface scale, and light material removal on metal substrates. Its soft density makes it particularly effective on curved or non-flat surfaces where a rigid pad would leave uneven contact.
Designed for use with Roloc TR quick-change abrasive discs. Compatible with angle grinders and die grinders that accept a Quick-Change Type R backing pad interface.
Installation and disc changes should be performed with the grinder powered off and disconnected from its power source. Ensure the backing pad is fully seated and locked before operating the tool. Do not exceed the rated maximum spindle speed of 8,000 RPM. Inspect the backing pad for wear or damage before each use and replace if the pad surface is deteriorated or the attachment mechanism is compromised.
