The 3M 7000120279 is a coated abrasive belt designed for stock removal and metal finishing in demanding shop and fabrication environments. It uses a blend of ceramic abrasive grain and aluminum oxide that cuts faster and lasts longer than conventional aluminum oxide belts. The heavyweight polyester backing is built to handle high-pressure grinding passes and can be run either dry or with a lubricant. A built-in grinding aid reduces heat buildup during operation, which is especially important when working stainless steel and other heat-sensitive metals. This belt is installed and used by metalworkers, fabricators, and maintenance technicians running belt grinders or finishing machines.
This belt is suited for ferrous and non-ferrous metal finishing, weld blending, and surface conditioning on belt grinder setups. The P120 grit rating places it in the fine-to-medium range, appropriate for refining surfaces after heavier stock removal passes or for controlled metal finishing work. The ceramic and aluminum oxide grain blend supports consistent cut rates over the belt life, reducing the frequency of belt changes compared to standard aluminum oxide belts. Applications include stainless steel fabrication, tool and die work, and general metal shop finishing tasks.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard consumable for belt grinders and finishing machines that accept 20.5 inch by 0.75 inch abrasive belts.
Belt installation and tensioning should be performed by qualified personnel following the belt grinder manufacturer guidelines and all applicable shop safety procedures. Power down and lockout the machine before mounting or removing any abrasive belt. Inspect the belt for tears, delamination, or splice damage before use. Always operate within the maximum speed rating of the belt and the machine.
