The 3M 7000119264 is a dry-use sanding sheet designed for fine surface finishing and material removal on wood, metal, paint, and composites. Built on the 426U platform, it uses silicon carbide abrasive at 280 grit — an extra fine grade — bonded to a lightweight A-weight paper backing. Silicon carbide cuts faster and harder than aluminum oxide at equivalent grits, making it well suited for finish sanding between coats, scuff sanding primers, and smoothing hard materials. The sheet measures 9 inches wide by 11 inches long, a standard hand-sheet size. Load-resistant construction helps extend usable life when working softer materials or finishes.
This sheet is intended for dry sanding applications across wood finishing, metal prep, automotive body work, and general surface conditioning tasks. The 280 grit extra fine grade positions it as a between-coat or final-stage abrasive rather than a stock-removal tool. Woodworkers, painters, auto body technicians, and general tradespeople use this sheet for controlled, consistent surface texture before topcoating. It is used by hand or fitted to standard 9-by-11-inch compatible hand-sanding blocks and sheet sanders.
Designed for use with standard 9-by-11-inch hand-sanding blocks and sheet sanders that accept full-size abrasive sheets in a dry-sanding configuration.
Secure the sheet firmly to a backing block or sander clamp before use to prevent slippage during operation. Sand with consistent, even pressure; excessive force on 280 grit abrasive can cause uneven scratching or premature sheet wear. Inspect the abrasive surface periodically and replace the sheet when loading or glazing reduces cutting efficiency. No power tools are required for hand-sanding applications, but when used with powered sheet sanders, ensure the sander is powered off before loading or removing the sheet.
