The 3M 7000118517 is a utility abrasive cloth roll designed for material removal, surface preparation, and finishing tasks in trade and industrial environments. The roll features aluminum oxide abrasive grain bonded to a J-weight cloth backing. J-weight backing is flexible and conformable, making it well-suited for contoured surfaces and hand-sanding applications. The P320 grit rating places this roll in the fine-finishing range, appropriate for smoothing surfaces before sealing, coating, or final inspection. The roll measures 1.5 inches wide by 20 yards long, providing extended use from a single roll. Electricians, pipefitters, HVAC technicians, and general maintenance trades use this type of abrasive roll for deburring, pipe prep, and surface conditioning.
This cloth roll is used across residential and commercial jobsites wherever controlled, fine-grit abrasion is needed. Typical applications include preparing metal pipe ends before soldering or joining, cleaning oxidation from electrical contacts, deburring cut tubing, and conditioning metal or wood surfaces prior to coating. The flexible J-weight backing allows the roll to wrap around cylindrical workpieces and irregular profiles without tearing. Strips can be torn to length by hand directly from the roll for task-specific use.
Designed as a general-purpose utility abrasive cloth roll suitable for hand sanding and light machine sanding applications on metal, wood, and composite surfaces across trade and maintenance work.
This abrasive roll is a consumable hand-tool supply, not an installed component. No power shutoff is required for typical hand-sanding use, but standard PPE including safety glasses and gloves is appropriate. When using abrasives near electrical panels or energized equipment, confirm the circuit is de-energized and locked out per NFPA 70E requirements before work begins. Discard worn strips promptly to maintain consistent finishing results.
