The 3M 7000118192 is a PSA-backed diamond lapping film disc designed for precision finishing on extremely hard materials. Built on the 668X platform, it features precisely graded diamond abrasive particles coated onto a dimensionally stable polyester film backing. The pressure-sensitive adhesive backing allows fast, secure mounting to lapping plates and rotary fixtures without liquid adhesives. Sized at 8 inches in diameter, this disc delivers a consistent, repeatable surface finish across ceramic, carbide, glass, sapphire, and similarly hard substrates. Licensed machinists, optical technicians, and precision grinding professionals are the primary users of this product.
This disc is suited for flat lapping applications where controlled material removal and low edge rounding are critical. It is widely used in optical component finishing, fiber optic connector polishing, ceramic tooling, and precision mechanical component lapping. The 668X series is the PSA-backed counterpart to the 661X film and is available in grades ranging from 0.10 to 30.0 micron, allowing users to select the appropriate cut rate and surface finish for their specific application.
Designed for use with 8-inch lapping plate fixtures and rotary lapping machines that accept PSA-backed abrasive discs. Suitable for lapping extremely hard materials including ceramics, carbides, glass, and optical substrates.
Ensure the lapping plate surface is clean and free of debris before applying the PSA disc. Peel the liner and press the disc firmly onto the plate, working from the center outward to eliminate air pockets. Power down all rotating equipment before disc changes. Follow the equipment manufacturer's guidelines and applicable shop safety protocols when operating lapping machinery.
