The 3M 7000059410 is a one-part, ready-to-use intumescent moldable putty pad designed to firestop wall openings and through-penetrations in fire-rated assemblies. The dark red pad measures 4 inches x 8 inches and is approximately 0.25 inches thick. It delivers up to 4 hours of fire protection and also functions as a draft and cold smoke seal, providing an L-Rated assembly solution. The pad is re-enterable, meaning penetrations can be modified after installation without replacing the entire firestop system. Licensed electricians, fire-stop contractors, and plumbing contractors typically handle installation in commercial and residential fire-rated wall and floor assemblies.
This putty pad is suited for sealing through-penetrations such as conduit, cable bundles, and pipe openings in fire-rated walls and partitions. Its flexible, moldable form allows it to conform around irregular penetrations without specialized tools. The pad also offers airborne sound reduction properties, making it appropriate for assemblies that require an STC rating. It is commonly installed during new construction and retrofit projects where fire-rated compartmentalization is required by code.
Designed for use in fire-rated wall and floor assemblies requiring firestop protection at conduit, cable, and pipe through-penetrations. Suitable for systems requiring L-Rated and STC-rated assembly compliance per IBC, NFPA, and NEC guidelines.
Installation is typically performed by a licensed firestop contractor, electrician, or plumber depending on the penetration type. De-energize circuits and ensure the work area is safe before beginning any penetration sealing in electrical or mechanical systems. Follow the applicable IBC and NFPA requirements for fire-rated assembly restoration. Do not compress the pad below its rated thickness or stretch it beyond coverage dimensions, as doing so may compromise fire-resistance performance.
