The 3M 7000057483 is a red polyester film masking tape engineered for printed circuit board electroplating applications. At 4.2 mil (0.107 mm) total thickness, the tape combines a polyester film backing with a silicone and rubber blend adhesive that holds firmly through electroplating bath exposure while releasing cleanly without leaving residue. Each roll measures 0.75 inches wide by 72 yards long, providing a practical run length for high-volume PCB masking operations. Electronics assembly technicians and PCB fabrication specialists are the primary installers of this product.
This tape is designed for use in PCB manufacturing environments where precise masking of contact areas, traces, or connector fingers is required during electroplating processes such as gold, tin, or other conductive metal deposition. The red color provides high contrast against circuit board substrates, making it easy to verify coverage before the board enters the plating bath. It is suited for both prototype runs and production-volume PCB fabrication workflows.
Designed as an OEM-specification masking tape for printed circuit board electroplating masking applications in electronics manufacturing and PCB fabrication environments.
Application is performed by electronics assembly technicians or PCB fabrication personnel. Ensure the board surface is clean and dry before applying the tape to achieve full adhesive contact. Apply firm, even pressure along the tape edge to prevent plating solution from migrating under the mask. Remove the tape promptly after the plating process is complete and before any baking or elevated-temperature post-processing steps unless the tape is confirmed rated for that exposure.
