The 3M 7000050141 is a UHMW (ultra-high-molecular-weight) polyethylene film tape designed for surface protection, noise dampening, and vibration reduction in mechanical and industrial assemblies. Built on a 4.5 mil UHMW polyethylene film backing, it combines a low coefficient of friction with strong abrasion resistance. The acrylic adhesive is solvent resistant, making it suitable for environments where cleaning agents or process chemicals are present. Each roll measures 2 inches wide by 36 yards long. Licensed HVAC technicians, mechanical contractors, and industrial maintenance technicians are the primary installers of this tape.
This tape is commonly applied to wear surfaces, guide tracks, chute liners, and moving parts where metal-to-metal or metal-to-plastic contact causes noise or abrasion. In HVAC applications, it is used to reduce vibration and rattling in ductwork, fan housings, and equipment panels. The transparent film stays low-profile after installation, making it suitable for visible or finished surfaces where appearance matters. It performs well in both residential and light commercial mechanical applications.
Designed for use on metal, plastic, and composite surfaces in HVAC equipment, mechanical assemblies, and industrial applications where abrasion resistance or noise and vibration control is required.
Surface must be clean, dry, and free of oils or loose particles before application for proper adhesive bonding. Apply firm pressure across the full tape surface using a roller or squeegee to ensure full contact. No special tools or trade license are required for installation, though mechanical contractors and HVAC technicians are the typical installers in trade settings. Avoid stretching the tape during application, as distortion can reduce long-term adhesion.
