The 3M 7000050120 is a PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) film tape sold under the 3M 5490 product line. It features a gray PTFE film backing with a pressure-sensitive silicone adhesive, delivering a low-friction, chemically resistant surface that holds up in demanding industrial and mechanical applications. At 3.5 mil total thickness, it provides a thin, conformable layer suited for use as a sliding surface, release liner, or insulating wrap. The tape comes in a 1 inch wide by 36 yard roll, with 9 rolls per case. HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical contractors use it where heat resistance, chemical inertness, and low surface friction are required.
This tape is used in applications where standard film or cloth tapes would degrade. Common uses include wrapping chute liners, conveyor guides, heat sealer bars, and mechanical slide surfaces. In HVAC and plumbing trades, it sees use on ductwork penetrations, pipe insulation jacketing, and high-temperature surface protection where a non-reactive, low-friction interface is needed. It is sold by the case, with 9 rolls per case, making it practical for stocking in a service van or shop.
Designed as an OEM-style industrial film tape suitable for use in HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, and general trade applications requiring PTFE film surface protection or low-friction interfaces.
Surface should be clean, dry, and free of oils or debris before applying the tape. Apply firm hand pressure along the full length of the tape to ensure full adhesive contact. In high-heat environments, allow the tape to seat at operating temperature before putting the assembly into service. No special tools are required for application, but a tape cutter or utility knife provides clean edge cuts.
