The 3M 7000050114 is a gray PTFE extruded film tape with a silicone adhesive backing, designed for sealing, masking, and low-friction surface applications in industrial and trade settings. At 6.7 mil thick, this tape is a heavier-gauge version of the 3M 5490 series, offering greater durability where additional build is required. The PTFE film face delivers an exceptionally slick, non-stick surface, while the silicone adhesive provides reliable bond strength across a wide temperature range. Each roll measures 1.5 inches wide by 36 yards long. HVAC technicians, plumbers, electricians, and industrial maintenance professionals routinely use this tape for high-heat masking, chemical-resistant sealing, and friction-reduction tasks.
This tape is suited for both residential and commercial applications where chemical resistance and low surface friction are priorities. Common uses include masking during powder coating or spray finishing, sealing around fittings and surfaces exposed to aggressive chemicals, and lining chutes or guide surfaces to reduce drag. The PTFE film resists curling during unwind, making it easier to handle in field conditions. It performs in environments where standard polymer tapes would degrade from heat or chemical exposure.
Designed as a general-purpose PTFE film tape for sealing, masking, and friction-reduction tasks across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and industrial maintenance applications.
Surface preparation is critical — clean and dry the substrate before application to ensure full adhesive contact. No special tools are required for most installs, though a roller or squeegee helps eliminate air pockets on flat surfaces. When used for high-temperature masking, confirm the substrate and surrounding materials are rated for the expected thermal exposure before applying. Remove tape promptly after masking operations to prevent adhesive transfer.
