The 3M 7000050079 is a UHMW polyethylene film tape designed for noise reduction, vibration dampening, and surface protection in demanding industrial and trade applications. It features a translucent 10.0 mil UHMW polyethylene backing bonded with a rubber-based adhesive, supplied on a paper liner. At 11.7 mil total thickness, this is the thickest version in the 3M 5423 tape family, offering greater abrasion resistance than thinner variants. Its low coefficient of friction makes it well suited for reducing wear and noise in sliding, rubbing, or high-contact surface conditions.
This tape is used in mechanical, HVAC, and industrial service applications where surfaces experience repeated contact, vibration, or abrasion. Common uses include lining chutes, guides, drawer slides, and wear pads, as well as isolating vibrating components to suppress operational noise. It is also applied in conveyor systems and equipment housings where a durable, low-friction surface layer is needed. The paper liner allows for controlled application in tight or precise installation areas.
Designed as an OEM-style and aftermarket-fit tape for industrial, mechanical, and HVAC applications requiring a durable low-friction UHMW surface protection solution.
Surface preparation is critical before application — clean the substrate free of oils, dust, and moisture for proper adhesion. Cut tape to length using a sharp utility knife or shears; avoid stretching the backing during application. No special tools or licensed trade certification is required, though PPE appropriate to the work environment should be worn. Apply firm pressure across the full tape surface after placement to ensure full adhesive contact.
