The 3M 7000050078 is a UHMW (ultra-high-molecular-weight) polyethylene film tape with a translucent backing and rubber adhesive on a paper liner. The backing measures approximately 10.0 mil thick, with a total tape thickness of 11.7 mil, making it the thickest configuration in the 3M 5423 tape line. That added thickness delivers greater abrasion resistance compared to thinner variants. The low coefficient of friction on the UHMW surface makes this tape a reliable solution for reducing noise and controlling vibration in mechanical assemblies, guides, and wear surfaces. Each roll measures 3 inches wide by 18 yards long. Maintenance technicians, fabricators, and mechanical contractors use this tape in both industrial and trade applications.
This tape is suited for applications where a sliding or contact surface needs protection from wear and abrasion. Common uses include lining chutes, guides, drawer slides, conveyor components, and any surface subject to repeated mechanical contact. The rubber adhesive bonds to a variety of substrates and the paper liner allows for controlled application. Its translucent appearance makes it unobtrusive on finished surfaces. The thicker 11.7 mil construction is preferred when surface durability is the primary requirement over flexibility or conformability.
Designed as a direct-application film tape for mechanical wear surfaces, guides, chutes, and noise-dampening contact points in industrial and trade service environments.
Surface must be clean, dry, and free of oils or loose particles before application for proper adhesion. Apply firm pressure across the full tape surface to ensure full contact between the adhesive and substrate. Cut to length with a sharp utility knife or scissors for a clean edge. No special tools or certifications are required for installation, though mechanical contractors and maintenance technicians are the typical installers in trade settings.
