The 3M 7000050074 is a UHMW (ultra-high-molecular-weight) polyethylene film tape designed to reduce wear and friction on surfaces exposed to repeated contact and abrasion. It features a 5.0 mil translucent UHMW polyethylene backing combined with a rubber-based adhesive supplied on a paper liner. The tape measures 3/4 inches wide by 18 yards long with an overall thickness of 6.7 mil. Its low coefficient of friction and abrasion-resistant backing help reduce noise and vibration in high-contact applications. Maintenance technicians and industrial service professionals apply this tape where surfaces need protection without adding significant thickness or weight.
This tape is suited for protecting plastic and metal chutes, guide rails, conveyor components, and containers in both commercial and light industrial settings. It is applied anywhere repetitive sliding or impact contact causes surface degradation. Common install scenarios include lining guide rails in packaging equipment, protecting wear zones on material handling chutes, and dampening noise from vibrating sheet metal or plastic assemblies. The roll format allows the tape to be cut to length on site for a wide range of surface profiles.
Designed as an OEM-style protective film tape for use on metal and plastic guide rails, chutes, and wear surfaces in material handling and industrial maintenance applications.
Surface preparation is critical before applying pressure-sensitive film tapes — clean and degrease the substrate thoroughly before laying down the tape. No special tools are required beyond a squeegee or roller to press out air bubbles and ensure full adhesive contact. Power down or de-energize any moving equipment before applying tape to live conveyor or guide rail assemblies. Avoid stretching the tape during application, as this can reduce long-term adhesion and cause edge lifting.
