The 3M 7000049607 is a silver aluminum foil tape designed for sealing, patching, and shielding applications in HVAC, insulation, and general sheet metal work. The construction combines a 2 mil aluminum foil backing with a 1.45 mil acrylic adhesive layer for a total thickness of 3.25 mils. The foil provides a reliable barrier against moisture, dust, flame, and certain chemicals, while the acrylic adhesive delivers strong resistance to elevated temperatures, UV exposure, and solvents. Each roll measures 2 inches wide by 55 yards long and is self-wound for clean, consistent unspooling. Licensed HVAC technicians and sheet metal contractors are the primary installers of this product type.
This tape is suited for residential and light commercial HVAC installations where duct sealing, vapor barrier repairs, and insulation facing repairs are required. The acrylic adhesive system performs reliably across a wide service temperature range, making it appropriate for both supply and return duct assemblies, equipment cabinet patching, and cold-side vapor barrier work. It is also used in general construction for flashing details and reflective shielding tasks where a durable metallic tape is specified.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and general-use aluminum foil tape compatible with standard HVAC duct sealing, insulation facing repair, and sheet metal patching applications where a UL 723 listed foil tape is required.
Installation is typically performed by licensed HVAC technicians or sheet metal mechanics following SMACNA guidelines and applicable local mechanical codes. Surfaces should be clean, dry, and free of dust or grease before tape application to ensure full adhesive contact. Power down any air-handling equipment before accessing duct interiors for sealing work. Do not apply over wet insulation facing or damaged substrates, as adhesion performance will be compromised.
