The 3M 7000049596 is a blue polyester tape designed for high-temperature masking and splicing applications. It features a clean-removing silicone adhesive and a tough, non-slivering polyester backing at 2.6 mil (0.066 mm) total thickness. The silicone adhesive system allows the tape to be removed without leaving residue, even after exposure to elevated process temperatures. This tape is handled primarily by finishing technicians and industrial applicators who need reliable masking performance through powder coat paint cycles and similar thermal processes.
This tape is suited for powder coat paint masking, where clean removal after curing is critical to a quality finish. It also performs well when splicing silicone-treated release liners and similar low-surface-energy materials where standard acrylic or rubber adhesives fail to bond adequately. The combination of a dimensionally stable polyester backing and a high-temperature silicone adhesive makes it appropriate for industrial finishing lines, automated splicing operations, and precision masking in both production and field environments.
Designed for use in powder coat paint masking processes and for splicing silicone-treated materials. Suited for industrial finishing and manufacturing environments where high-temperature resistance and clean removal are required.
Apply to clean, dry surfaces free of oils, dust, and contaminants for best adhesion. Ensure edges are firmly seated to prevent paint bleed-through during masking applications. Remove the tape promptly after the process is complete and while the substrate is still within the recommended temperature range to ensure clean removal. Handle rolls carefully to avoid edge damage that could cause slivering during application or removal.
