The 3M 7000049448 is a double-sided, pressure-sensitive, closed-cell acrylic foam tape designed for demanding bonding applications. At 16 mil thick, the tape conforms to irregular surfaces and bonds high, medium, and medium/low surface energy substrates without mechanical fasteners. Supplied on a roll measuring 46 inches wide by 36 yards long with a PE film liner, it is handled and cut to length on the job. Installers in glazing, panel fabrication, HVAC enclosure assembly, and general industrial work rely on this tape where cushioning, vibration damping, and impact resistance are required alongside a permanent adhesive bond.
This tape fits residential and commercial construction and manufacturing environments where a conformable foam carrier is needed to fill minor surface gaps while maintaining adhesion. It is well suited for bonding metal, painted surfaces, and certain plastics in exterior or interior panel attachment, sign assembly, and equipment enclosure sealing. The black color aids in aesthetics on visible edges. UL listing 746C covers use with component plastics, making it appropriate for electrical enclosure and device assembly applications.
Designed as a general-purpose VHB bonding solution for high, medium, and medium/low surface energy substrates including metals, painted surfaces, and select plastics in industrial, construction, and electrical enclosure assembly applications.
Surface preparation is critical — clean bonding surfaces with an appropriate solvent to remove oils, dust, and contaminants before applying tape. Apply firm, even pressure across the full bond area to ensure full contact between the adhesive and substrate. Allow adequate dwell time before loading the bond; full adhesive strength develops over 24 to 72 hours at room temperature. This tape is intended as a structural bonding aid and should be evaluated by a qualified technician or engineer when used in load-bearing or safety-critical assemblies.
