The 3M 7000049128 is a dead-soft aluminum foil tape engineered to absorb and dissipate mechanical vibration while reducing structure-borne noise. A viscoelastic acrylic polymer adhesive bonds the foil constraining layer to the target surface, converting vibrational energy into low-level heat rather than allowing it to radiate as noise. The tape ships on a blue polyethylene easy-release liner, which supports die-cutting for custom shapes and precise application. It carries a cold-temperature rating down to -76 degrees F, and resists UV degradation and weathering, making it suitable for demanding service environments encountered in HVAC, appliance, industrial, and construction work.
This tape is used wherever vibration damping or noise reduction is needed on metal panels, ductwork, enclosures, appliance housings, or structural components. Typical installations include attaching it to sheet-metal duct walls to reduce drumming, lining appliance cabinets to cut radiated motor noise, and damping vibration on equipment panels in MRO and general industrial settings. The silver aluminum finish blends with standard sheet-metal surfaces and does not require a topcoat for most interior applications.
Designed for vibration damping and noise reduction applications across HVAC, appliance, aerospace, automotive, construction, and MRO industries where a pressure-sensitive aluminum foil constraining tape is required.
Surface preparation is critical — clean target surfaces of oil, dust, and moisture before applying the tape to ensure full adhesive contact. Apply firm, even pressure across the tape face after positioning to maximize bond strength. In HVAC or appliance applications, power down or lock out the equipment before working in areas near moving components. Follow applicable industry guidelines and local codes for noise control and vibration isolation requirements.
