The 3M 7000049122 is a dead soft aluminum foil vibration damping tape designed to absorb and dissipate mechanical vibration in demanding environments. The construction pairs a silver aluminum foil constraining layer with a pressure-sensitive viscoelastic acrylic polymer adhesive applied over an easy-release liner. The adhesive converts vibrational energy into negligible heat that readily dissipates, reducing noise and material fatigue. This tape is rated for use at extremely low temperatures down to -76 degrees F (-60 degrees C) and resists weather and UV degradation. Each roll measures 2 inches wide by 36 yards long at 8 mil total thickness.
This tape is used in applications where vibration control and noise reduction are required across a range of service conditions. It is linered for die-cutting, making it well suited for precision aerospace component applications that require shaped or contoured pieces. Fabricators, aerospace MRO technicians, and industrial maintenance professionals install this tape in panel assemblies, ductwork, and structural components where low-temperature performance and UV resistance are necessary. It meets F.A.R. 25.853(a) for aerospace use.
Designed as an OEM-style vibration damping solution for aerospace, industrial, and HVAC panel applications where a pressure-sensitive aluminum foil tape with low-temperature performance is required.
Installation is typically performed by aerospace MRO technicians, sheet metal fabricators, or industrial maintenance professionals. Clean and dry the substrate before application to ensure proper adhesion. When die-cutting, follow standard liner-supported cutting procedures to maintain adhesive integrity. Handle the foil carefully to avoid deforming the dead soft aluminum layer before bonding.
