The 3M 7000049089 is a double coated tape built on a 1 mil clear PET carrier with two distinct adhesive systems: 3M Adhesive 350 acrylic on the face side and a 3 mil silicone adhesive on the liner side. This construction makes it purpose-built for bonding silicone-based materials to a wide range of substrates in applications where standard acrylic-only tapes fall short. The tape measures 0.5 inches wide and 36 yards long per roll. It is supplied on a double-liner system, with Adhesive 350 on a 58 4.2 mil PCK liner and the silicone adhesive on a 3 mil PET liner. HVAC, industrial assembly, and specialty fabrication technicians working with silicone materials are the primary installers.
This tape is designed for demanding bonding applications involving silicone rubber elastomers, silicone foam, and silicone gasketing. The dual-adhesive system addresses the well-known challenge of adhering silicone substrates, which resist most conventional adhesives. Typical use cases include attaching silicone gaskets in HVAC equipment, sealing and bonding silicone foam insulation, and securing silicone elastomers in industrial enclosures or assemblies where temperature cycling and chemical exposure are expected.
Designed for use with silicone rubber elastomers, silicone foam, and silicone gasketing materials bonded to a range of substrates in industrial, HVAC, and specialty fabrication applications.
Surface preparation is critical for maximum adhesion — clean all bonding surfaces and allow them to dry fully before application. Remove each liner in sequence as directed by the double-liner construction to expose the correct adhesive for each substrate. Apply firm, even pressure across the full bond area to ensure full contact. This tape is intended for use by trained technicians familiar with adhesive bonding procedures; consult applicable industry standards for your specific application environment.
