The 3M 7000048901 is a double-sided, pressure-sensitive acrylic foam tape sold under the 3M VHB 4611 product line. At 45 mil thick, this gray tape bonds dissimilar materials without mechanical fasteners, rivets, or welds. The closed-cell acrylic foam core conforms to surface irregularities while the polyethylene (PE) film liner protects the adhesive prior to application. Each roll measures 0.5 inches wide by 36 yards long, providing significant run length for high-volume bonding work. It is typically installed by fabricators, glaziers, industrial maintenance technicians, sign installers, and other trades requiring a structural-grade tape bond.
VHB 4611 tape is suited for applications where permanent, load-bearing adhesion is required between rigid substrates such as metal, glass, painted surfaces, and select plastics. Common uses include panel attachment, trim bonding, junction box sealing, and structural glazing assemblies in both commercial construction and industrial maintenance environments. The gray color provides a neutral visual profile where tape edges may be visible after installation.

Surface preparation is critical before applying VHB tape — clean bonding surfaces thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol and allow to dry completely before liner removal. Apply firm, even pressure across the full bonded area using a roller or squeeze fixture to ensure full contact. Do not attempt to reposition the tape after contact; the acrylic adhesive bonds immediately and removal will damage the substrate or tape. Full bond strength develops over 72 hours at room temperature, so avoid load-bearing stress immediately after application.
