The 3M 7000048729 is a conformable, double-sided, pressure-sensitive, closed-cell acrylic foam tape sold in a small-pack roll measuring 0.5 inches wide by 36 yards long at 62 mil thickness. Designed under the 3M VHB 4979F product line, this black tape uses a PE film liner for clean handling and controlled application. It bonds effectively to high and medium surface energy substrates, making it suitable for structural and semi-structural attachment applications where mechanical fasteners are not practical. The acrylic foam core provides cushioning, vibration damping, and impact resistance alongside a plasticizer-resistant formulation. Licensed electricians, HVAC technicians, glazing contractors, and industrial maintenance trades routinely specify this product for bonding panels, signs, nameplates, and trim components.
This tape is used across residential and commercial applications where a permanent, load-bearing bond is required without surface drilling or welding. Typical install scenarios include mounting metal or plastic panels to painted or primed steel, aluminum extrusions, powder-coated surfaces, and select high-energy plastics. The 0.5-inch width suits narrow-flange bonding lines, gasket replacement, and edge-sealing tasks. Its UL listing 746C rating makes it appropriate for use with polymeric materials in end-use equipment where flammability and material compatibility have been evaluated. The small-pack format allows technicians to carry a single roll for service calls without the bulk of a full-case order.
Designed for bonding high and medium surface energy substrates including metals, glass, and select engineering plastics. UL listing 746C applies to polymeric material applications in evaluated equipment.
Surface preparation is critical — clean all bonding surfaces with an appropriate solvent wipe and allow to dry fully before applying tape. Apply firm, even pressure along the full bond line to activate the pressure-sensitive adhesive; a roller is recommended for uniform contact. Allow adequate dwell time before applying load to the bond, following standard VHB installation guidelines for the substrate type. This tape is intended for permanent bonding; removal after cure will likely damage the substrate or tape.
