The 3M 7000048719 is a heavy-duty UHMW (ultra-high-molecular-weight) polyethylene film tape designed for noise reduction, vibration dampening, and surface protection in demanding industrial and trade applications. Built on a translucent 10.0 mil UHMW polyethylene backing with a rubber-based adhesive and a paper release liner, this tape delivers a low coefficient of friction combined with strong abrasion resistance. At 11.7 mil total thickness, it is the thickest version in the 542X series, making it the right choice where maximum wear protection is required. It is installed by maintenance technicians, millwrights, and facility service professionals across a wide range of equipment and surface types.
This tape is suited for applications where sliding contact, chafing, or repetitive abrasion degrades equipment performance or generates unwanted noise. Common uses include lining chutes, guides, wear strips, conveyor components, and any metal or plastic surface subject to friction or part-on-part contact. Its translucent appearance allows some visibility of the substrate beneath, which is useful when surface inspection is part of ongoing maintenance. The 20-inch width and 18-yard roll length allow for coverage of large surface areas with fewer seams.
Designed as a general-purpose UHMW film tape for industrial maintenance, equipment protection, and noise and vibration control applications on metal, plastic, and composite surfaces.
Installation requires no special tools beyond a clean, dry substrate and a hand roller or squeegee to ensure full adhesive contact. Power down or de-energize any equipment before applying tape to moving or electrically active components. Avoid stretching the tape during application to maintain consistent thickness and adhesive coverage. Surface temperature and cleanliness at the time of application directly affect long-term bond performance.
