The 3M 7000048697 is a brown PTFE-impregnated glass cloth tape in the 5453 series, measuring 36 inches wide by 36 yards long with an overall thickness of 8.2 mils. The glass cloth backing is saturated with PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) and finished with a silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive on the reverse side. This construction delivers a slick, non-stick surface combined with high tensile strength, puncture resistance, abrasion resistance, and low moisture absorption. It is rated for high-temperature environments and is the thicker-backing variant of Tape 5451, making it suited for more demanding process applications where additional durability is required.
This tape is used on heat sealing machines and process equipment where a reliable, easy-release surface is needed at elevated temperatures. Common applications include lining the sealing bars of packaging equipment that seal plastic film with a hot wire, as well as lining conveying chutes, troughs, and ducts to keep production flow smooth and reduce friction. It is appropriate for both light industrial and heavy process environments where chemical resistance and release performance are priorities. Maintenance technicians and equipment fabricators typically handle installation.
Designed for use on heat sealing bars, conveying chutes, troughs, ducts, and general process equipment surfaces requiring a high-temperature non-stick release liner or protective facing.
Surface should be clean, dry, and free of oils or debris before applying tape to ensure proper adhesion. Power down and de-energize all equipment before applying or removing tape from sealing bars or heated process components. Trim tape with a sharp utility knife or industrial scissors to fit the application surface cleanly. Consult equipment manufacturer guidelines for any temperature ratings or surface prep requirements specific to the machinery being serviced.
