The 3M 7000048688 is a brown PTFE-impregnated glass cloth tape in the 3M 5453 series, measuring 8.2 mil thick and supplied in a 6-inch-wide by 36-yard roll. The glass cloth backing is fully saturated with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and finished with a silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive. This construction delivers a non-stick, chemically resistant surface with high tensile strength, puncture resistance, and abrasion resistance. Low moisture absorption keeps performance stable in humid or wet process environments. HVAC fabricators, industrial maintenance technicians, and packaging equipment service pros use this tape where a durable, high-temperature release surface is required on process equipment and heat-sealing machinery.
Tape 5453 is engineered for industrial and commercial applications where surfaces must release cleanly under repeated heat cycles. Common install points include the sealing bars on heat-sealing machines that bond plastic film, as well as conveying chutes, troughs, and ducts where material flow must stay consistent and friction-free. The thicker 8.2 mil backing makes this the heavy-duty version compared to the 3M 5451, offering added puncture and abrasion protection in higher-wear applications. It is well suited for both insulation and surface-protection roles in process environments.
Designed for use on heat-sealing machines, packaging equipment sealing bars, and industrial conveying surfaces requiring a high-temperature, non-stick release liner. Serves as a thicker-backing replacement for 3M Tape 5451 in the same product family.
Power down and allow all equipment surfaces to cool completely before applying or removing tape on heat-sealing bars or process machinery. Clean the mounting surface of oils, dust, and residue prior to application to ensure full adhesive contact. Trim tape with a sharp utility knife or shears rated for industrial tape to maintain clean edges and prevent peeling. Application and replacement on energized or high-voltage equipment should be performed only by qualified technicians following applicable facility lockout/tagout procedures.
