The 3M 7000048649 is a gray, double-sided, pressure-sensitive, closed-cell acrylic foam tape designed for permanent bonding applications across a wide range of surfaces. At 15 mil thick, this VHB tape conforms to irregular or slightly uneven surfaces, making it effective where mechanical fasteners or liquid adhesives are impractical. The roll measures 1 inch wide by 72 yards long and includes a paper liner for handling convenience. It bonds high and medium surface energy substrates and offers cushioning, vibration damping, and impact resistance in a single tape solution. The acrylic foam construction also provides resistance to plasticizer migration from vinyl and similar materials.
This tape is suited for use in light industrial, construction, signage, glazing, and general assembly applications. It performs well in scenarios where a clean, flush-mounted bond is required without visible fasteners. HVAC panel fabricators, electrical enclosure builders, and general contractors working with metal, glass, or painted surfaces will find it useful for attaching trim, nameplates, gaskets, and lightweight components. The conformable foam core allows it to bridge minor surface irregularities and maintain contact across the bonded area.
Designed to bond high and medium surface energy substrates including metals, glass, and many painted or coated surfaces. Specific substrate compatibility should be verified by testing prior to full installation.
Surface preparation is critical — clean bonding surfaces thoroughly with an appropriate solvent to remove oils, dust, and contaminants before application. Apply firm, uniform pressure across the tape after positioning to ensure full contact and initial adhesion. Allow adequate dwell time for the bond to develop full strength before loading the joint. Tape removal after bonding may damage substrates; treat this as a permanent fastening method.
