The 3M 7000048647 is a gray, double-sided, closed-cell acrylic foam tape in the VHB 4956F series, measuring 1 inch wide by 36 yards long at 62 mil thickness. The conformable foam core is coated on both sides with pressure-sensitive acrylic adhesive and ships with a PE film liner for handling protection. At 62 mil, this tape provides meaningful cushioning, vibration damping, and impact resistance alongside its primary bonding function. It bonds reliably to high and medium surface energy substrates and is formulated to resist plasticizer migration from PVC and similar materials. Licensed contractors and industrial assembly technicians working with structural bonding applications rely on this tape as a fastener-free alternative to mechanical attachment.
VHB 4956F tape is used in applications requiring a conformable bond line on surfaces that are not perfectly flat, including panel attachment, sign assembly, architectural glazing trim, truck body fabrication, and equipment enclosure assembly. The gray color and 62 mil thickness make it well suited for applications where gap-filling and vibration isolation matter as much as adhesion strength. This roll format is appropriate for both shop fabrication and field installation work.
Designed for bonding high and medium surface energy substrates including metals, glass, and many rigid plastics. Not intended for low surface energy substrates such as untreated polyethylene or polypropylene without surface preparation or primer.
Surface preparation is critical to VHB tape performance — clean bonding surfaces with an appropriate solvent wipe and allow to dry completely before applying tape. Remove the PE film liner just before application and apply firm, even pressure across the full bond area to ensure full adhesive contact. Allow adequate dwell time before applying service loads, as acrylic adhesive bond strength develops over 24 to 72 hours. This product is typically installed by fabricators, glazing contractors, sign installers, and industrial assembly technicians following the substrate preparation guidelines appropriate to their trade.
