The 3M 7000048646 is a gray, double-sided, closed-cell acrylic foam tape in the VHB 4941F series, measuring 1 inch wide by 36 yards long at 45 mil thickness. It uses a pressure-sensitive acrylic foam core with a PE film liner, allowing it to conform to irregular surfaces and bond high- and medium-surface-energy substrates without mechanical fasteners. The tape provides cushioning, vibration damping, and impact resistance in a single bonding layer. Licensed trades and industrial assembly technicians use it where structural adhesive tapes replace screws, rivets, or welds in demanding interior and exterior applications.
This tape is suited for bonding metals, glass, and many plastics in both commercial and industrial settings. Typical applications include panel attachment, sign assembly, architectural glazing, and equipment enclosure fabrication. The closed-cell foam core resists plasticizer migration, making it a reliable choice in environments where contact with PVC or other plasticizer-containing materials is expected. It carries a UL 746C listing, confirming suitability for use with UL-recognized components.
Designed for bonding high- and medium-surface-energy substrates including metals, glass, and select plastics. Consult 3M surface preparation guidelines to confirm adhesion on specific substrates before permanent installation.
Surface preparation is critical for full bond strength — clean and dry all bonding surfaces before application, removing oils, dust, and loose coatings. Apply firm, even pressure across the tape length to ensure full contact with both substrates. Initial handling strength develops within minutes, but full bond strength typically requires additional dwell time at room temperature. This tape is intended for permanent assembly; removal after full cure may damage bonded surfaces.
