The 3M 7000048555 is a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) transfer tape with anisotropic electrical conductivity through the Z-axis. Also known as 3M Tape 9703, it conducts electricity through the adhesive thickness but not across the plane of the tape. This behavior is achieved through a PSA matrix loaded with aligned conductive particles. The tape is permanently tacky, repositionable, and reworkable, making it practical to apply without thermal bonding equipment. It is used in grounded EMI and RFI shielding attachment and in interconnection of silver ink and polyester-based flexible circuits. Licensed electricians and electronics assembly technicians are the primary installers.
Tape 9703 is suited for applications requiring stable electrical performance at moderately high temperatures. Typical use cases include bonding flexible circuits to rigid substrates and attaching EMI shielding components in electronics assemblies. The adhesive bonds well to polyimide and polyester flex circuit materials, FR-4 board, copper, steel, and aluminum. Both commercial electronics manufacturing and field-service repair scenarios rely on this product where reliable Z-axis conductivity and clean repositionability are required.
Designed for grounded EMI and RFI shielding attachment and interconnection of silver ink and polyester-based flexible circuits, including applications on polyimide and polyester flex circuit materials, FR-4 board, copper, steel, and aluminum substrates.
Installation is typically performed by electronics technicians or licensed electricians working on shielding or flex circuit assemblies. De-energize all circuits before applying or repositioning the tape on live assemblies. Clean substrate surfaces of oils, dust, and contaminants prior to application to ensure full adhesive contact. No special tools are required, but a roller or squeegee helps achieve uniform bond pressure across the tape surface.
