The 3M 7000048529 is a black polyethylene tape featuring a 5.3 mil (0.13 mm) polyethylene film backing bonded with a rubber-based adhesive. Engineered for low sulfur and halogen content, this tape is well suited for applications where chemical exposure or contamination is a concern. The conformable backing allows the tape to follow irregular surfaces and curved substrates without lifting. It remains flexible at temperatures down to -20 degrees F, making it serviceable in cold-storage and outdoor environments. Professionals in electronics assembly, industrial maintenance, and facilities services are the primary installers and users of this product.
This tape is designed for general container sealing, electroplating tank masking, and printed circuit board masking during chemical processing. It is also used for silicone chip holding, decorative banding, safety marking, and color-coding applications in industrial and electronics environments. The good solvent resistance of the polyethylene backing makes it a practical choice wherever chemical splash or mild solvent exposure is expected during processing operations. Each roll measures 3 inches wide by 36 yards in length.
Designed as a general-purpose polyethylene masking and sealing tape suitable for electroplating lines, electronics assembly operations, printed circuit board processing, and industrial container sealing applications.
Apply to clean, dry surfaces free of oils, dust, and loose particles for best adhesion. When using in electroplating or chemical processing environments, ensure edges are firmly pressed down to prevent solution wicking beneath the tape. Remove the tape promptly after processing is complete to minimize adhesive residue transfer. Handle with standard personal protective equipment appropriate to the chemical environment where the tape is being applied.
