The 3M 7000048518 is a double-sided, pressure-sensitive, closed-cell acrylic foam tape supplied in a 0.5-inch-wide by 36-yard roll. At 45 mil thick, it delivers a firm, conformable bond layer suitable for demanding structural and semi-structural bonding applications. The tape features a paper liner for handling convenience and bonds effectively to high surface energy substrates including metals, glass, and many plastics. Typical users include industrial assembly technicians, glazing contractors, sign fabricators, and other trades requiring a reliable permanent tape bond without mechanical fasteners.
This tape is suited for applications where vibration damping, cushioning, and impact resistance are required alongside a strong adhesive hold. Common install scenarios include panel bonding, nameplate attachment, trim and molding adhesion, and gasket-style sealing on smooth, clean surfaces. The closed-cell foam core provides a degree of environmental sealing and helps absorb shock loads between bonded substrates. It is available in black and is intended for indoor and outdoor use on properly prepared surfaces.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use tape for bonding high surface energy substrates such as metals, glass, and compatible plastics in industrial, commercial, and trade assembly applications.
Surface preparation is critical before application — clean bonded surfaces with an appropriate solvent to remove oils, dust, and contaminants and allow to dry completely before applying tape. Apply firm, even pressure across the full bond area to ensure full adhesive contact. Consult applicable building or assembly codes when using adhesive tape in structural or load-bearing applications. Removal of bonded assemblies may require careful mechanical parting tools, as VHB-type tapes form permanent bonds.
