The 3M 7000048482 is a double-sided urethane foam tape designed for bonding, holding, joining, and mounting applications across a wide range of trade and industrial uses. The tape features an acrylic adhesive on both sides of a urethane foam core and ships as a continuous roll measuring 3/4 inches wide, 36 yards long, and 1/8 inch (125 mil) thick. The off-white foam carrier conforms to irregular surfaces and delivers consistent adhesion across the bond line. A paper liner protects one adhesive face until application. Rated to a maximum operating temperature of 220 degrees F, this tape holds up in heated enclosures, mechanical assemblies, and HVAC equipment panels where thermal cycling is a factor.
This tape is suited for light-duty to medium-duty mounting and assembly work encountered by HVAC technicians, electricians, plumbers, and general trade professionals. Typical applications include securing gaskets, mounting trim and nameplates, bonding insulation panels, and sealing gaps at cabinet joints. The continuous roll format allows techs to cut custom lengths on the job without waste. It is appropriate for both residential and light commercial installations where a conformable, double-sided foam bond is required.
Designed as a general-purpose double-sided urethane foam mounting tape suitable for bonding metal, plastic, and painted surfaces commonly encountered in HVAC, electrical, and plumbing equipment assemblies. Part of the 3M Series 4008 tape line.
Surface preparation is critical for maximum adhesion — clean and dry the mating surfaces before application and remove any oil, dust, or loose paint. Apply firm, even pressure across the full bond area after positioning to ensure full contact with both adhesive faces. For applications inside energized electrical or HVAC equipment, de-energize all circuits and follow applicable NEC or equipment manufacturer lockout procedures before working in the enclosure. Avoid stretching the tape during application, as elongation can reduce long-term bond strength.
