The 3M 7000048465 is a brown PTFE-impregnated glass cloth tape designed for high-temperature release, surface protection, and insulation applications in industrial and process environments. The tape measures 4 inches wide by 36 yards long and carries a total thickness of 5.6 mil. The base is a woven glass cloth fully impregnated with PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) and finished with a silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive on the reverse. PTFE provides a low-friction, chemically resistant surface while the glass cloth carrier delivers high tensile strength, puncture resistance, and abrasion resistance. Licensed HVAC technicians, electricians, and maintenance mechanics install this tape in process and equipment settings where heat, chemicals, or continuous cycling demand a durable release surface.
This tape is well suited for heat-sealing machines where the tape protects the sealing bar surface and prevents plastic film from sticking during the sealing cycle. It also performs on conveying chutes, troughs, ducts, and other process equipment where a slick, low-friction surface keeps production moving. The silicone adhesive bonds to irregular surfaces and holds under elevated temperatures, and the PTFE face resists most industrial chemicals with low moisture absorption. Applications span both light industrial and heavy process environments where repeated heat cycling occurs.
Designed as an OEM-style surface-protection and release tape for heat-sealing machines, conveying equipment, and general industrial process applications where PTFE-coated glass cloth tape is specified.
Installation is typically performed by maintenance mechanics or qualified process technicians. Before applying, de-energize and fully cool any heat-sealing equipment or heated surfaces to prevent burns and ensure proper adhesive contact. Clean the mounting surface thoroughly to remove oils, dust, and residue before applying the tape. Avoid stretching the tape during application, as distortion can reduce adhesive contact and long-term bond integrity.
