The 3M 7000048459 is a green, film-backed fine line masking tape designed for high-precision paint line work and general masking applications. At 5.0 mils thick, the tape maintains a low profile that produces clean, sharp color separation along straight runs and curved surfaces. The specialty-processed film backing stretches to conform smoothly around contours without lifting or wrinkling. Strong adhesion to steel at 37 oz. per inch of width keeps edges sealed against paint bleed, while tensile strength of 13 lbs. per inch of width resists tearing during application and removal. Licensed tradespeople in auto body, industrial coating, and finish work rely on this tape for consistent, repeatable masking results.
This tape is suited for both straight-line masking and curved-surface work in automotive refinishing, manufacturing paint operations, and general-purpose holding and bundling tasks. The film backing tolerates fresh paint contact sooner than conventional paper tapes, reducing the risk of surface imprint damage on newly coated panels. It performs in environments where moisture and solvent exposure are expected during the masking cycle. Each roll measures 0.75 inches wide by 60 yards long. Not recommended for outdoor or prolonged UV exposure.
Designed as a general-purpose fine line masking tape for automotive refinishing, industrial coating, and precision paint masking applications where clean edge definition is required.
Surface preparation is critical — ensure the substrate is clean, dry, and free of oils or loose material before applying tape. Remove tape promptly after the paint or coating process is complete to minimize adhesive transfer risk. Do not expose this tape to outdoor conditions or prolonged UV light. Application and removal should be performed by personnel familiar with surface masking procedures for the coating system in use.
