The 3M 7000048418 is a Greenback Printed Circuit Board Tape (Series 851) designed for masking during PCB plating and wave soldering processes. Built on a 1 mil polyester film backing, it carries a heavy coat weight of silicone and rubber blended adhesive that provides strong adhesion while allowing clean removal without residue transfer. Total tape thickness measures 3.6 mil. The translucent green color allows technicians to visually confirm coverage and alignment during masking operations. Each roll measures 2 inches wide by 72 yards long and is sold individually by the roll, with a minimum order quantity of 24 rolls.
This tape is used in electronics manufacturing and repair environments where precise, conformable masking is required during printed circuit board plating processes. Its polyester film construction resists plating chemicals and holds dimensional stability under process conditions. It is suited for both production-line PCB shops and bench-level rework operations where controlled masking of copper traces, contact fingers, or selective plating areas is needed.
Designed as an OEM-style masking tape for printed circuit board plating processes in electronics manufacturing and rework applications.
Application is typically performed by electronics technicians or PCB process technicians. Surfaces should be clean and free of oils, dust, and moisture before tape application to ensure proper adhesion and mask integrity. Apply with firm, even pressure to eliminate air pockets, particularly around trace edges and contact areas. Remove the tape promptly after the plating or soldering process while the assembly is still warm to minimize adhesive transfer risk.
