The 3M 7000048416 is a 5.0 mil acrylic adhesive transfer tape designed for high-tack, thin-film bonding applications across a wide range of substrate types. It uses a 300 high-strength acrylic adhesive carried on a 3.5 mil, 60 lb densified kraft paper liner. The tape measures 3/4 inch wide and 60 yards long per roll. It delivers aggressive initial adhesion and maintains performance across high surface energy (HSE) and low surface energy (LSE) materials alike. UL approved and compliant with US government specification MIL-P-19834B, Amendment 1, it is suited for industrial, fabrication, and assembly environments where a clean, permanent bond is required.
This transfer tape is used as a general-purpose bonding solution across residential, commercial, and light industrial applications. It is well suited for splicing film, foils, and fabrics, and for laminating foams, photos, fabrics, metal nameplates, and plastic nameplates. Fabricators, sign makers, and assembly technicians commonly reach for this tape when bonding dissimilar materials where a thin adhesive layer with high initial tack is preferred over mechanical fastening. Its good UV resistance and chemical resistance make it a reliable choice in environments with light exposure or occasional chemical contact.
Designed for bonding a wide variety of similar and dissimilar materials including film, foil, fabric, foam, photos, and metal or plastic nameplates where a high-tack, thin adhesive transfer bond is required.
Surface preparation is critical for transfer tape applications — clean and degrease all substrates before application to maximize adhesion. Apply firm, even pressure across the bond area immediately after placement to ensure full contact. Allow adequate dwell time before subjecting the bond to stress loads. Remove the liner carefully at a low angle to avoid stretching or tearing the adhesive layer during transfer.
