The 3M 7000047505 is a double coated, open-cell urethane foam tape sold under the 4008 product line. It features a paper liner and measures 3/8 inches wide by 36 yards long with a 1/8 inch thickness. The tape carries adhesive on both sides, allowing it to bond two surfaces simultaneously while the foam core fills gaps and conforms to irregular or uneven contact areas. The off-white foam also provides a degree of cushioning during handling and in service. It is suited for light assembly, gasketing, and mounting applications across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general trade work.
This tape is commonly used where a conformable, double-sided bond is needed between surfaces that are not perfectly flat or uniform. Typical applications include sealing and cushioning gaps in panel assemblies, attaching nameplates or light trim components, and providing a compressible interface layer in equipment enclosures. Its open-cell foam construction allows it to compress under clamping load and recover when released, making it useful in situations where vibration damping or gap compensation is required.
Designed as a general-purpose double coated foam tape for bonding, gasketing, and cushioning applications on irregular or non-flat surfaces across multiple trades and industries.
Clean and dry both mating surfaces before applying the tape to ensure full adhesive contact. Remove the paper liner just before bonding and apply firm, uniform pressure across the tape width to seat the adhesive. Avoid stretching the tape during application, as this can reduce bond area and foam recovery. No specialized tools are required, but a roller or squeegee is recommended for consistent pressure on larger surfaces.
