The 3M 7000047102 is a Quick Change Surface Conditioning RC Disc engineered for surface prep work on flat workpieces. It uses aluminum oxide mineral on an open-web RC material that breaks down under medium pressure to continuously expose fresh fibers and cutting mineral. The result is consistent cut rate from start to finish. The RC substrate is load-resistant, which reduces clogging when working through paint, corrosion, and soft-metal swarf. At 1 inch in diameter, this disc mounts and swaps quickly on compatible quick-change tools, keeping downtime between disc changes minimal. Licensed tradespeople and fabrication shop techs are the primary installers and users.
This disc is suited for cleaning, blending, coating removal, light deburring, and finishing operations on flat surfaces. The open web conforms to minor surface irregularities, which lowers the risk of gouging the workpiece. It performs well on composites and softer metals such as aluminum, where load-resistant abrasive materials are preferred to maintain a clean cut and avoid material buildup. It is available in multiple grades: dark brown extra coarse, brown coarse, maroon medium, and blue very fine, allowing the same quick-change platform to carry a disc matched to each stage of the finishing sequence.
Designed for use with standard quick-change disc tool holders and mandrels that accept 1-inch surface conditioning discs. Compatible with flatwork, composite substrates, and softer metals including aluminum.
Secure the disc firmly to the quick-change mandrel before tool operation and confirm the mandrel is rated for the tool RPM in use. Power down and disconnect the tool before mounting or removing any disc. Inspect the disc for tears or wear before each use and discard any disc showing visible damage. Eye protection and appropriate respiratory PPE should be worn during all abrasive grinding and surface conditioning operations per ANSI and OSHA standards.
