The 3M 7000047071 is a surface conditioning disc engineered for edge work, deburring, and blending on ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built on a flexible FE substrate with Aluminum Oxide abrasive, this 5-inch disc delivers high initial cut rate and maintains cutting performance throughout its service life. The hook-and-loop attachment system allows fast disc changes on compatible random orbital and disc sanders. Coarse grade construction makes it well-suited for aggressive material removal where high contact pressure is applied. Licensed HVAC techs, metalworkers, and maintenance trades rely on this disc for blending welds, removing coatings, and prepping contoured surfaces.
This disc is designed for use on flat and contoured metal surfaces in both shop and field environments. Typical applications include light deburring of cut edges, blending weld seams, coating and scale removal, and surface finishing on ferrous metals. The flexible FE backing conforms to irregular profiles, reducing the need to reposition the tool on contoured workpieces. Coarse grit is most effective when significant stock removal or heavy surface prep is required before finishing passes.
Designed for use with hook-and-loop compatible disc sanders and random orbital tools accepting 5-inch abrasive discs with a 0.87-inch arbor.
Install and remove the disc only when the tool is powered off and fully stopped. Ensure the backing pad is clean and free of debris before attaching the disc to maintain secure hook-and-loop engagement. Inspect the disc for tears or damage before each use and replace if the abrasive surface shows uneven wear. Follow applicable shop safety standards, including use of eye protection and appropriate guarding for abrasive disc operations.
