The 3M 7000046883 is a Surface Conditioning FE Disc designed for edge work, deburring, and blending on metal surfaces. Built with Aluminum Oxide abrasive on a flexible FE substrate, it delivers high initial cut rate and extended cut life across both flat and contoured workpieces. The disc runs at up to 8000 RPM and measures 4.5 inches in diameter. The FE backing combines rigidity at the edge with enough flex to conform to curved surfaces, making it effective for coating removal and light finishing passes on ferrous and non-ferrous metals alike. Rated Very Fine grade, it is suited to final blending and surface prep stages rather than heavy stock removal.
This disc is used in fabrication shops, welding facilities, and metal finishing operations where consistent surface conditioning is required. It is particularly well suited for ferrous materials under high contact pressure, where the Aluminum Oxide grain maintains an extended cut rate. Typical applications include weld seam blending, edge deburring, and prep work before coating or painting. The Hook and Loop attachment system allows fast disc changes without additional hardware, supporting high-volume work cycles. Both flat and contoured workpiece geometries are handled effectively due to the flexible FE material construction.
Designed for use with 4.5 inch Hook and Loop random orbital or angle grinder disc pads rated for operation at or above 8000 RPM.
Installation and operation should be performed by personnel familiar with abrasive disc safety practices. Confirm the backing pad and grinder are rated for a minimum of 8000 RPM before mounting the disc. Inspect the disc for damage before each use and never use a disc that shows tears, fraying, or compromised backing. Follow ANSI B7.1 and applicable shop safety guidelines when operating angle grinders or orbital tools with abrasive discs.
