The 3M 7000046463 is the Part A (Accelerator) component of the Scotch-Weld Epoxy Potting Compound 270, a rigid, two-part epoxy system formulated for potting and bonding electronic and electrical components. This low-viscosity compound offers a 1:1 mix ratio with a 70-minute work life, reaching handling strength in approximately 3 hours. It is non-corrosive to copper, non-exothermic, and exhibits high flow characteristics, making it well suited for production and field applications where thermal runaway and copper corrosion are concerns. This listing is for Part A only; Part B must be sourced separately to complete the B/A system.
This compound is used in residential, commercial, and industrial electrical and electronic assembly environments. Typical applications include potting transformers, sensors, circuit board assemblies, and other electrical components requiring encapsulation for mechanical protection or environmental sealing. The low viscosity allows the material to flow into tight geometries and around component leads before cure, reducing voids. Electronics assemblers, industrial maintenance technicians, and electrical contractors working with encapsulated components are the primary installers of this product.
Designed for use as Part A in the 3M Scotch-Weld Epoxy Potting Compound 270 B/A two-part system. This product must be combined with the corresponding Part B at a 1:1 ratio. Intended for potting and bonding electronic and electrical components where copper compatibility and low exotherm are required.
Mixing and dispensing should be performed by personnel familiar with two-component epoxy systems, following the compound manufacturer's published processing guidelines. De-energize and lock out all electrical assemblies before potting. Use calibrated two-component dispensing equipment to maintain the 1:1 ratio; off-ratio mixing will result in incomplete cure. Work in a well-ventilated area and observe applicable safety data sheet requirements for skin and eye protection.
