The 3M 7000046122 is a quick-change abrasive disc designed for surface finishing, blending, and light deburring on metal and similar substrates. Built around a non-woven aluminum oxide construction, this disc delivers consistent cut without loading or glazing, making it well-suited for final prep work before coating or painting. The Type S (Roloc TSM) attaching system allows tool-free disc changes on compatible right-angle grinders and die grinders. Rated to 30,000 RPM, the disc holds up under sustained use in production and field environments. The very fine grade targets fine scratch refinement and surface conditioning rather than aggressive stock removal.
This disc is used in metal fabrication, HVAC sheet metal work, plumbing rough-in finishing, and general mechanical service where controlled surface conditioning is needed. The 1.5-inch diameter is suited for tight clearances, curved surfaces, and detail areas where larger discs cannot reach. It is a single-disc package, appropriate for spot repairs or when maintaining a variety of disc grades on hand. HVAC techs, pipefitters, and sheet metal workers commonly use this size for weld blending and corrosion removal in confined spaces.
Designed for use with Type S quick-change tool holders and mandrels compatible with the Roloc TSM attaching system, as used on standard die grinders and right-angle grinders that accept Type S discs.
Installation requires a Type S mandrel mounted in a die grinder or right-angle grinder rated for at least 30,000 RPM. Ensure the tool is powered off and air supply is disconnected before mounting or removing the disc. Inspect the disc for tears or damage before each use and do not exceed the maximum RPM rating. Operators should wear appropriate eye and face protection per ANSI Z87.1 standards when using abrasive discs.
