The 3M 7000046023 is a Scotch-Brite Clean and Strip Unitized Wheel designed for aggressive coating removal in metalworking and fabrication environments. Built with a hard density-7 layered construction and silicon carbide abrasive, this wheel delivers strong cutting action for removing rust, paint, weld scale, and surface coatings without damaging the base material. Its low conformability makes it well suited for working edges and flat surfaces where controlled, consistent stock removal is required. HVAC sheet metal fabricators, pipefitters, welders, and maintenance technicians are the primary users of this type of abrasive wheel.
This unitized wheel is suited for use on metal surfaces in both shop and field maintenance settings. Common applications include cleaning welds prior to inspection, stripping corroded or painted pipe and duct surfaces, and preparing metal for coating or bonding. The hard, layered unitized construction allows operation in both clockwise and counterclockwise directions, giving flexibility on variable-speed angle grinders and die grinders. It resists heat buildup and loading on soft coatings, supporting prolonged operation without frequent wheel changes.
Designed as an OEM-specification unitized abrasive wheel compatible with standard angle grinders and die grinders that accept 6-inch arbor-mounted wheels. Confirm arbor size and maximum RPM rating of the tool before mounting.
Mounting and operation of abrasive wheels must be performed by qualified personnel following ANSI B7.1 safety standards and the grinder manufacturer guidelines. Inspect the wheel for damage before each use and never exceed the tool rated maximum RPM. Ensure all workpieces are properly secured and that bystanders are clear of the grinding plane. Wear appropriate PPE including face shield, safety glasses, and gloves during operation.
