The 3M 7000045610 is an 8-inch diameter aluminum oxide lapping disc designed for precision surface finishing and superfinishing applications. Aluminum oxide mineral is coated onto a 3-mil polyester film substrate and bonded with a durable resin system. The disc uses a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) backing for fast, tool-free mounting to compatible backup pads. Available in seven grades ranging from 0.05 to 60.0 micron, this disc delivers a consistent cut rate and finish across the full range of abrasive grades. The harder resin system provides longer disc life compared to the 261X series. Weighing 0.02 pounds per disc, it is handled and replaced easily during high-volume finishing runs.
This disc is suited for fiber optic connector end-face finishing and roll superfinishing, where tight particle distribution and repeatable surface quality are critical. It is also applicable in precision metalworking and optical component finishing environments. The polyester film backing provides dimensional stability under load, making it appropriate for both manual and automated lapping fixtures used in production and repair settings.
Designed for use with PSA-compatible backup pads and lapping fixtures used in fiber optic finishing and roll superfinishing setups. Confirm backup pad diameter and PSA interface compatibility before installation.
Installation is performed by pressing the PSA-backed disc firmly onto a clean, dry backup pad surface, ensuring full contact with no air pockets. Remove any dust or debris from the backup pad before applying the disc to maintain adhesion. Discs should be removed and replaced when finish quality or cut rate degrades noticeably. Always power down or de-energize automated lapping equipment before disc changes.
